Newsletter – December 2016

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from your furry friends and all the volunteers at TCHS Animal Shelter. We deeply appreciate your donations and continued support of our shelter. We would also like to send a special Thank You to all of our adopters.

During the past year we secured grant money to buy a van to help transport dogs to vet appts and rescues. We were also able to provide community assistance for spaying and neutering over 300 dogs and cats along with caring for over 200 dogs & puppies at the shelter. We are currently working on updating ceilings and insulation plus lighting and heaters in the buildings.

We always have a Christmas Wish List if you would like to donate items needed for the care of the animals and maintenance of the shelter. These include: Iams puppy food; milk bone dog biscuits; dog toys; 6 foot dog leashes; bleach; paper towels; laundry detergent; household cleaners; heavy duty brooms; hand sanitizer; fleece blankets; large bath towels; and dog or puppy shampoo. You may drop items off at the shelter on Riverside Drive during the adoption and volunteer hours listed below or anytime the gate is open. The Mountain Statesman at 914 W. Main St., Grafton , WV accepts donations for us year round between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm M-F if you cannot make it to the shelter. You may also go to Amazon.com and enter Taylor County Humane Society under Wish List search to purchase and donate items for the shelter, or click here.

Monetary donations are always appreciated to help with vaccines, vet bills, and medication, and can be sent to: TCHS, P.O. Box 4045, Grafton, WV 26354. We are a 501C3 nonprofit organization. Click on the “Donate” button to the right to donate via PayPal.

We are always in need of volunteers to help provide the daily care for the animals at the shelter. Our adoption and volunteer hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00am until 12:00pm, Saturday from 9am until 1pm, and Sunday from 9:30am until 1:30pm. If you are interested in helping our homeless animals, please call the shelter at 304-265-4215. We don’t always have time to answer the phone or call back right away but we value your call. You can also message us on Facebook.

Upcoming Fundraisers

  • Our annual Spaghetti Dinner is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2017, from 12:00noon until 6:00pm at the Church of the Good Shepherd. We will once again have a bake sale during the dinner.

Urgent!

It’s springtime, and with that comes PUPPIES!!!  We are in urgent need of Iams Smart Puppy dry food!  If you’d like to visit the pups and drop off a donation, there is a volunteer at the shelter every day after 9:30 until around noon, or you can PayPal donations to tchsdoginfo@aol.com

The greatest gift you can give the Taylor County Humane Society is to spay and neuter your own pets to prevent unwanted litters and help control the pet overpopulation problem.  Financial assistance is available: contact us to find out how to receive a voucher towards the cost of spay/neuter of your dog.

TWO New Ways for YOU to Help Us!

Did you know that TCHS is a volunteer-run operation? We are NOT funded by any county organizations! The TCHS volunteers work tirelessly to apply for grant money, fundraise, and accept donations. Without these efforts, there would be no dog shelter in Taylor County, WV.

Our volunteers have recently discovered 2 new ways to raise the funds that we need to operate, and we are very excited to tell you about them! These options are easily incorporated into your life, because you’re already doing these things!

The first is an app called WoofTrax. You’re already walking your dog every day, right? Download the WoofTrax app and for every mile you walk YOUR OWN dog, WoofTrax will donate to TCHS!!! Donations are approximately .25/mile.

If you’d like to make a more personal connection, or you don’t have a dog of your own, come on out to the shelter during our regular hours and walk one of our dogs! WoofTrax will even donate for your time spent at the shelter doing other tasks besides walking the dogs, so you can come help out in the laundry room (have you ever seen how much laundry a bunch of furry dogs can make in a day?! It’s endless!), bathe dogs, clean kennels, mow or weed eat, and WoofTrax will donate! It’s that easy!

The second way that you can help out is by shopping online, specifically on Amazon. Say what?! Well, there’s one little step you must remember… in your browser, type smile.amazon.com to go to the Amazon Smile site. It’s the same Amazon, but when you shop, .5% of your eligible purchases will be donated to the organization of your choice. Please choose Taylor County Humane Society, Grafton WV in order for us to receive the donation.

Remember, we rely on YOU to keep these furballs healthy and happy while they await a new home. Please incorporate these easy tasks into your daily routines!

Successful Spaghetti Dinner

TCHS would like to thank everyone who helped make our 2014 Spaghetti Dinner a Success! We appreciate the hard work of all the volunteers (and their families!) who came out to prepare and serve the dinner, as well as the numerous community members who joined us for a great meal! The shelter dogs appreciate you!
