Newsletter – December 2017

Season’s Greetings from your furry friends & the volunteers of Taylor County Humane Society!

2017 has been a busy, productive year for TCHS! We are so thankful for our adopters, donors, & community support! Nearly 50 dogs found their loving, adoptive families & an additional 150 dogs found their forever homes through our rescue partners in northeastern states!

We’ve continued our efforts in making our shelter a safer place for dogs under our care. Several repairs & improvements were successfully completed throughout the year to help achieve our goals. Kennel panels were replaced with block walls, fencing was extended & reinforced in needed areas, & heating/cooling elements were added to aid in keeping our dogs more comfortable during extreme weather conditions.

One of our ongoing missions is to assist the public with animal overpopulation. Through our community spay/neuter voucher program, several hundreds of dogs & cats were altered this past year at reduced prices by our partnered veterinary clinic. The State of WV recently approved new spay/neuter legislation for 2018. We applied for grant funds & are very hopeful to make spay/neuter even more affordable to Taylor County residents in the future!

Our shelter is always in need of donations. We have a year-round Amazon Wish List. If you enter “Taylor Co Humane Society” in the List/Registry search, you may select items to purchase for shipment to us. If you shop via Amazon Smile & have selected us as your Charitable Organization, we will also receive a small percentage of proceeds from Amazon Smile purchases made. We graciously accept donated items at our shelter. Please stop along Riverside Drive during daily business hours (Monday through Saturday 9am to noon; Sunday 9:30am to 1:30pm). Also, the Mountain Statesman at 914 W Main St Grafton, WV accepts donations on our behalf (weekdays 8:30am to 4:30pm). Most needed items currently include: Iams Adult Mini Chunks dry food (green bag) & bleach. Other items include heavy-duty brooms & squeegees, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, disinfectant wipes, Fabuloso or Mr Clean liquid cleaners, Dawn type dish soap, & ground moist/pate type foods (Iams, Pedigree, Purina One, or Cesar). We are also enrolled in Kroger Rewards & Thrivent Dollars. Please ask us how you can participate in programs that benefit our shelter.

Monetary donations are greatly appreciated to assist with ongoing expenses for food, kennel cleaning supplies, vaccines/medications, & veterinary services. You may mail checks to: TCHS, PO Box 4045, Grafton, WV 26354 or contribute via PayPal on our website (www.tchswv.com). We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

If you reside near the area, have you considered volunteering? Additional volunteers are always needed to help care for our dogs’ daily needs. Volunteering is very rewarding to you & our dogs! If you are interested in enriching the lives of homeless pets while they await their forever homes, please email us at taylorcodogs@gmail.com, contact us on Facebook, or leave a message at (304) 265-4215.

Upcoming Fundraisers: Our Annual Spaghetti Dinner will be held Saturday, March 24th, 2018 (11am to 6pm) at Church of the Good Shepherd in Grafton, WV. We hope to see you there! Always a great time with wonderful food! Whether you dine-in or carry-out, we enjoy the opportunity to engage with our supporters! Other fundraising events will be scheduled throughout the year such as our Spring Strawberry Sale & Fall WVU Basket Raffle. Please follow us on Facebook or check our website for upcoming events!
